Ferrari 296 GTB launched in India
Ferrari has finally bought its first road-going Ferrari 6-cylinder-powered car, the Ferrari 296 GTB to India. The Ferrari 296 GTB becomes the third 2-seater, mid-engined Ferrari in the line-up, followed by the F8 Tributo and SF90 Stradale, and the third hybrid model after the LaFerrari and SF90.
The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine produces 654PS. A 166 PS electric motor is connected to the engine, giving the system a total of 830PS. Ferrari says that the 296 GTB's combined torque output of 741Nm enables it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 330 kmph. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is used to transmit all of the power to the road.
Similar to the SF90 Stradale, it can go 42 km at speeds of up to 135 kmph only on electricity thanks to the 7.45 kWh battery. There are four driving modes available for the 296GTB: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify. Each mode offers varying levels of electric power and regenerative braking.
The V6 itself weighs some 30kg less than the twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 that's in the F8 Tributo, and the car's MGU-K weighs 22kg, while the battery pack weighs in at 177kg.
The 296 GTB's tech-heavy interior is reminiscent of the SF90 Stradale flagship. The concave dashboard part houses the steering wheel and digital instrument cluster, while the two side panels contain touch-capacitive buttons. The gearshift selector was created as a homage to the iconic Ferrari "H-gate" design.
The Ferrari 296 GTB only faces direct competition from the McLaren Artura and Maserati MC20 but since neither of those 2 are available in India as yet, the only possible competition comes from the recently launched Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica.
