Ford produces 2 million EcoBoost engines
Ford Motor Company, which is globally known for its diesel engines, first manufactured the fuel-saving EcoBoost petrol engines in 2009. It is now celebrating a manufacturing milestone of having produced more than 2 million EcoBoost engines globally. A Ford Escape powered by the two millionth EcoBoost, a 2.0-litre engine, was rolled out recently of the Louisville plant in the US.
"Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving incredibly popular with consumers around the world. EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand," said Joe Bakaj, VP-powertrain engineering, Ford.

The EcoBoost technology combines smaller overall size with turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing to deliver both performance and fuel efficiency. These engines are close to 20 percent more efficient than larger-displacement gasoline engines.
The EcoBoost lineup includes the 1.0-liter three-cylinder; 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines; and the powerful 3.5-liter V6. To match up to the growing global demand for these engines, Ford is upping production at certain key plants like Ohio (US), Cologne (Germany) and Chongqing (China).
Here in India, Ford EcoSport's 1.0-litre EcoBoost variant has been a runaway success. If this inspires Ford to bring in the EcoBoost to other models is yet to be seen.
