Four-wheeler sales in India for October 2016
Well, considering the festive season has just come to an end, all automobile manufacturers were expected to post a substantial jump in sales. And, as usual the sales figures for October 2016 have brought cheer to most car manufacturers. Nissan Motor India has seen a sales growth of 88 per cent while Tata Motors has register a 28 per cent jump in sales. Here's a compilation of the sales numbers from four-wheeler manufacturers in India for October 2016.
Ford India
This festive season has failed to bring any cheer for Ford India. The company's sale in the domestic passenger vehicle segment has declined by 25 per cent. It sold 7,508 vehicles in October 2016 compared to 10,008 units during the corresponding period last year. However, October 2016 turned out to be a good month in terms of exports with 14,535 units exported compared to 10,412 units in October 2015.
Anurag Mehrotra, executive director, marketing, sales and service, Ford India has commented that the company is committed to its strategy of product led innovation and breaking the myth related to the cost of ownership.
In August this year, Ford India had slashed prices of the Figo and Aspire by Rs 50,000 and Rs 91,000 respectively.
Hyundai Motor India
In October 2016, Hyundai Motor India has registered its highest ever monthly sales. The company achieved this milestone within 15 months of attaining the previous milestone of selling 40,000 units in one month in India.
It sold 50,016 units in October 2016 thereby registering a growth of 6.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. In October 2015, it had sold 47,015 units. The carmaker exported 14,356 units in October 2016. In comparison, 14,686 units were exported in October 2015.
Y K Koo, managing director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India has commented that the recently launched all-new Elantra has been well received by the market. He revealed that the 2016 Hyundai Elantra has received 1,509 bookings and has a waiting period of around four to five months. Hyundai is also expected to launch the Tucson sometime this year.
Mahindra and Mahindra
In the passenger vehicle segment, Mahindra and Mahindra has registered a growth of three per cent with 24,737 units sold in October 2016. In comparison, the company had sold 24,060 units in October 2015. The company had announced a 28 per cent growth in exports with 3,279 units exported in October 2016. During the corresponding period last year, the company had exported 2,568 units.
Commenting on the company's sales performance, Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (Automotive), Mahindra and Mahindra said that the Bolero, Scorpio and TUV300 have performed well.
Nissan Motor India
In October 2016, the company has registered a phenomenal 88 per cent growth in sales. Nissan Motor India has sold 6,108 units in the passenger vehicle segment in October 2016. In comparison, it sold 3,246 units in the corresponding period last year. Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India has attributed the stellar sales performance to the popularity of the Datsun redi-Go and the recently launched redi-Go Sport version.
Nissan India recently inaugurated its third regional parts distribution centre in Pune. It is also expected to launch the 2017 GT-R on November 15, 2016.
Tata Motors
The carmaker has registered a growth of 28 per cent in the passenger vehicle segment. In October 2016, it sold 16,311 units compared to 12,747 units sold in October 2015. In an official release, Tata Motors has attributed the surge in sales to strong demand for the Tata Tiago. It also stated that Tata Zest sales were at an all time high during the festive season.
According to Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicle business, Tata Motors, this is the highest sales growth registered by the company in the domestic passenger vehicle segment in the past four years. October 2016 turned out to be a good month for Tata Motors in terms of exports as well. It has announced a 39 per cent growth in exports with 6,333 units exported in October 2016 compared to 4,569 units in the corresponding period last year.
Recently, Tata Sons replaced Cyrus Mistry as chairman and appointed JLR CEO Ralph Speth as a board director.
Volkswagen India
Volkswagen India has announced a sales growth of 70 per cent with 5,534 units sold in October 2016. During the corresponding period last year, the company had sold 3,255 units. Last month, the carmaker launched the Ameo 1.5 TDI.
