Hyundai CNG cars will soon feature 2-cylinder tech
Hyundai Motor India has registered two trademarks for what we can only assume is an update for its CNG products. These trademarks, known as 'Hy-CNG' and 'Hy-CNG Duo', might be single and twin-cylinder CNG tanks in their current model range. Currently, the South Korean brand offers the Exter, Aura and Grand i10 Nios with factory-fitted CNG kits.
Tata Motors was the first to offer twin-cylinder tanks for CNG vehicles a year ago. The technology is currently available in all of its CNG vehicles, including the Altroz, Tiago, Punch, and Tigor. Hyundai too has CNG offerings in the same segment (save for the i20 that rivals the Altorz) but with the introduction of dual-cylinder technology, Hyundai could probably see an increase in CNG car sales.
The biggest benefit of having 2 CNG tasks instead of one is that it gives more storage space. The CNG tank is stored in the boot of the car and having 1 big tank that occupies almost the entire boot makes no sense. By splitting it into 2 separate tanks, it is easier to package it tighter and provide additional storage space.
This news hasn't been confirmed by Hyundai yet but seeing the grasp they have over the Indian automotive market, we assume they wouldn't want to miss out on this opportunity.
The Grand i10 Nios CNG is currently priced at Rs 7.68 lakh, the Aura CNG from Rs 8.40 lakh and the Exter CNG from Rs 8.43 lakh and all are available in only 2 variants. All prices are ex-showroom. These cars are only available in manual transmission for now but keeping in mind Tata Motors has already launched automatic transmission for the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, we wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai offers the same as well.
