The launch of Hyundai Motor India Limited's (HMIL) E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) in India was announced today. Based on the E-GMP architecture, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the first pure EV to be released on the domestic market.

The Kona Electric, India's first electric SUV, was introduced in 2019 as part of Hyundai's Electric Mobility program there. With the Ioniq 5 finally arriving in India, the South Korean automaker will lead the way in the development of future electric vehicles. The vehicle chassis, which incorporates a battery, motor, and power electric system, is part of the modular architecture.

The battery system includes a cutting-edge battery pack with a long-range, and the high-voltage battery can power a variety of electrical gadgets thanks to the bi-directional charging port. Additionally, the E-GMP platform has an integrated charging control unit (ICCU) that charges the auxiliary battery as well as the high-voltage battery.

The flexible production of several cars that meet a variety of client demands is made possible by modular systems, and numerous high-range battery alternatives may be constructed by adding or deleting common battery modules. The Ioniq 5 can reach a peak speed of 185 kmph, according to Hyundai.

The platform will give improved ride comfort and handling thanks to its 5-link rear suspension. Customers may charge up to 80 percent using E-GMP in just 18 minutes (with a 350 kW DC charger).
