We've just driven the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which will be launched in India on June 2, 2016. This new SUV replaces the Mercedes-Benz GLK internationally, and will slot in between the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Mercedes-Benz GLE. This Mercedes-Benz GLC will go up against the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3, and is expected to be priced between Rs 48-50 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). It will be offered to customers with two engine options â" a 2.1-litre diesel which produces 170PS and 400Nm, as well as a 2.0-litre petrol engine which delivers 245PS and 370Nm. Both of them get a 9-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels through the 4Matic system. Here's a detailed look at the new SUV in images.
The front fascia of the Mercedes-Benz GLC carries forward a look that is similar to all new-age Mercs
The India-spec model gets the off-road package, which offers extra protection to the front bumper, which is designed to offer a higher approach angle
The Mercedes-Benz GLC's side profile is more estate-like than SUV
Unlike the other SUVs in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, the GLC's rear end is "more in sync with the Mercedes coupes and C estate", according to Halley in his review
The shoulder line, which isn't too prominent, gives the GLC a more elegant look
Power delivery from the diesel engine is strong, with a good mid-range punch
The petrol variant is better than the diesel in terms of dynamic. It feels a lot more planted, with lesser body roll
Although the 2.1-litre diesel unit is quite refined, it isn't on par with Audi's 2.0-litre diesel with respect to NVH levels
This instrument cluster, which is typically Mercedes, features only in the diesel variant. The petrol GLC gets a sportier unit
The Mercedes-Benz GLC's seats conveniently fold at the touch of a button
The Mercedes-Benz GLC's interior is quite similar to the C-Class in terms of layout and styling
Since the GLC will be offered only in one variant initially, it gets a panoramic sunroof as a standard feature
The 7-inch infotainment screen features various camera modes which include wide-angle views of the front and rear, as well as a 360 degree aerial view
