The first leg of the Hyundai Tucson Great India Drive was an eye-opening experience, as we've experienced the sights and sounds of the North East in a way that left an indelible impression on us. The beauty of the places and the warmth of the people we met were something to experience. And as you can see from the images we've published before, the sights make you want to explore more of the paradise, that's the North East.
The second set of images you see here was captured on the final leg of the journey around the seven states in the North East - Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The magnificent Loktak Lake is situated a few kilometres from Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The lake stretches across 980 sq km and is quite a spectacular sight. The green circles you see here are called Phumdis. Villagers use these for fishing too
We watched a beautiful sunset, right by the shore of the Loktak Lake
The Ima Bazaar in Imphal is the world's largest market run by women
The battle of Imphal was fought between the Allied Forces (British+Indian forces) and an advancing Japanese army. The Japanese met a strong resistance from the Allied troops and could not manage to invade. This World War II museum has a huge collection of the arms, ammunition and other equipment that were used during the war. Seen here are grenade shells
These are the stamps used at that time, as well as the pay-book and glasses
This old Norton was used to shuttle between army bases
The museum also displays manuscripts and currencies used at that time
The Kohnoma village is Asia's first green village. It gets this name because villagers do not hunt animals or cut trees
The villagers in Kohnoma engage in the step cultivation kind of agriculture
This little girl in Kohnoma was super excited to help her family members. Sweet!
This church is located near the village of Kohnoma

Two-thirds of the population of the one-horned Rhinos are found in Kaziranga
Mumma elephants took the babies out to the pond in the Kaziranga National Park. Listening to the calls of elephants, in the wild, is truly amazing. No zoo can beat the experience of watching animals in the wild. Untamed and free
This elephant was barely 30 feet away from where we were standing. It's as close as it gets
The Thupsung Dhargyeling Monastery in Dirang is an architectural masterpiece. The intricate details and use of bright colours left us awestruck
