India bound 2024 Skoda Kodiaq makes global debut
The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV has been finally unveiled after months of spy photographs and teaser images, ahead of its arrival in India in 2024. It receives major design updates, a whole new cabin layout with additional amenities, and a host of powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid and turbo-petrol all-wheel drive.
2024 Skoda Kodiaq: Design and Dimensions
Skoda Kodiaq, now in its second generation, is significantly larger than its predecessor. The length has increased by 61 mm to 4,758 mm, while the wheelbase remains at 2,971 mm.
Rather unique for a new-generation car, the width has shrunk by 18 mm to 1,864 mm, while the height has lowered by 17 mm to 1,659 mm compared to the model it replaces.
While the exterior keeps many characteristic style cues and proportions from the previous edition, it receives a sharper look thanks to new components from the brand's 'Modern Solid' design language, a theme that will continue to be used across all models for the remainder of the decade. Cleaner body surfaces and modern elements such as complete LED Matrix headlights with a "Crystallinium" finish are among the improvements.
The profile features new sheet metal details and new alloy wheels ranging from 17-inch to optional 20-inch with aero wheel covers. The 2024 Kodiaq has an evolutionary design with a rear light bar. The Skoda wordmark is placed between the taillights, while the revised bumper design and roof spoiler finish off the improvements at the back.
2024 Skoda Kodiaq: Powertrains
There are a variety of turbo-petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains available, which may be coupled with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Starting with a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology delivering 150PS.
The larger 2.0 TSI has 204PS and all-wheel drive, whilst the 1.5 TSI only has front-wheel drive. Those who still desire a diesel engine may obtain a 2.0 TDI with 150PS and FWD or 193PS and AWD. Whatever you choose, a seven-speed DSG sends power to the road.
The major news is a plug-in hybrid powered by a 1.5 TSI engine with 150PS and an electric motor for a total system output of 204PS. There's a 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which Skoda claims is adequate for an electric range of more than 100 kilometres.
2024 Skoda Kodiaq: Interior and Features
The infotainment system is controlled by a 12.9-inch touchscreen, which is supplemented with a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit and a head-up display. Skoda's designers, thankfully, have achieved a balance between digital and manual controls by keeping some tactile buttons on the dashboard.
With the aforementioned touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker Canton audio system, ambient lighting, powered front seats, ventilated and heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, and USB-C fast chargers, there's much on offer. Skoda has fitted Smart Dials on the centre console, so there is less switchgear than previously. These take the form of 1.25-inch screens embedded in three rotary knobs.
It also has a slew of ADAS technologies like blind spot monitoring, parking assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Up to 9 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold aid, and ABS with EBD round out the safety features.
This new-generation Kodiaq is expected to arrive in India in 2024 and, like its predecessors, will be produced at Skoda's Aurangabad plant. It is also likely to have a slightly more premium asking price over the current generations of Rs 38.50 lakh.
