India-bound Maruti Suzuki Swift goes on sale in Japan
Suzuki debuted the new-generation 2024 Swift at the Japan Mobility Show in November. The Japanese automaker has now formally launched the new Swift in its home country, revealing additional details about the India-bound hatchback. We now have information on the new car's engine, transmission as well as efficiency numbers.
New-gen Suzuki Swift: Powertrain and Performance
Suzuki provides a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series petrol engine in the 2024 Swift. This engine is offered in two configurations: normal gasoline and a 12V mild-hybrid system. The Japan-spec vehicle is also available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
Suzuki will offer a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol engine with 82PS and 108Nm, as well as a 12V mild-hybrid system, with the new Swift. In its home nation, it is available with both a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT. On the WLTP cycle, the regular Swift and mild-hybrid Swift achieve 23.4kmpl and 24.5kmpl, respectively.
We highly doubt that the hybrid option will make its way to India once the new Swift is launched here.
In comparison, the on-sale India-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift comes powered by a 1.2-litre, inline four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 90PS and 113Nm. This unit is paired with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT transmission.
New-gen Suzuki Swift: Design and Features
The recently spotted Swift test mule showed off its blind spot monitoring system, which means that the India-spec model may feature a handful of driver assistance functions. In terms of design, the upcoming Swift is likely to retain the same design and interior as the model available in the Japanese market.
It is expected to feature LED lights, new seats, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Smart Play Pro+, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Suzuki Connect, and an analogue instrument cluster.
Maruti is likely to offer it with six airbags, cruise control, ABS with EBD, 360-degree camera, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), three-point seat belts and reminders for all seats, ISOFIX anchor points, and more.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift prices are expected to start from around Rs 6-6.40 lakh and go up to Rs 9.50 lakh. Upon launch, which is expected in the early months of 2024, it will continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
