Range Rover & Ranger Rover Sport to be locally produced in India from June 2024

Word has been moving around town regarding Tata Motors signing an MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up a Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) production plant. The effort would make it the first time that JLR-branded vehicles will be built from the ground up in India.

We have now gotten word that the Range Rover Autobiography and HSC as well as Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE will be the cars that will initially be produced in India.

Tata Motors acquired JLR way back in 2008 but this will be the very first time they will manufacture any cars in India. Tata Motors hopes that by establishing this factory, it will be able to improve its domestic production capacity and lessen its reliance on imports. This approach is consistent with the Indian government's efforts to boost domestic manufacturing through the "Make in India" program.

Rumours suggest that Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs 9,000 crore in the state. At the moment, JLR has three car manufacturing plants in Britain as well as factories in China, Brazil, and Slovakia.

In the previous fiscal year, the British brand's retail sales increased by 22 percent internationally, reaching over 432,000 vehicles. In India, it sold just 4,436 units, despite sales being up 81 percent from a year ago on increased demand.

The Land Rover brand has grown a lot in popularity in India, especially the Defender. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are all available in India with both petrol and diesel powertrains. The former 2 are offered in SE, HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition trims.
