Indian Car of the year ICOTY 2025
The ICOTY is the most prestigious automotive award in India and the winners have been selected by 20 decorated judges representing esteemed publications which also include Kranti Sambhav, Editor at OVERDRIVE and Rohit Paradkar, Assistant Editor at OVERDRIVE. The panel consist of seasoned experts from esteemed publications that will evaluate the nominations on the basis of key factors such as performance, practicality, frugality, and safety to name a few. Every year the ICOTY jury picks out eight contenders in each of the categories. This year's nominees for the Indian Car of the year 2025 were - BYD eMax7, Citroen Basalt, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, MG Windsor, Tata Curvv/Curvv EV, and the Tata Punch EV.
This year's Indian Car of the year 2025 goes to the Mahindra Thar Roxx with 139 points.
The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine of the 2WD only Thar Roxx comes in two different tunes: 162PS/330Nm for the manual and 177PS/380Nm for the automatic. Meanwhile, a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 152PS and 330Nm powers all diesel 4x2 models, manual or automatic. The features list includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with compatibility for wireless Android Auto and wired Apple CarPlay, wireless charger, front parking sensors, single pane sunroof, leatherette seats, auto-dimming IRVM, TPMS, and level 2 ADAS to name a few.
The first runner up for this category was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with 137 points and the second runner up was the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
