Is the new Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet the perfect car for the Summers?
Last year Mercedes-Benz launched the CLE as a replacement to the C and E class coupe. The car shares components with both the fifth-generation C-Class and the sixth-generation E-Class. Merc has now revealed a cabriolet version of the car that replaces the fixed roof with a fabric acoustic soft top. Mercedes assures that, at least in Europe, the drop-top will be ready for summer adventures as ordering is currently open, with the first deliveries expected for late April 2024.
Mercedes Benz CLE Cabriolet: Exterior and Interior
The roof's fabric has numerous layers to guard against sound and weather, and depending on the market, consumers will be able to pick between black, grey, and red. The roof takes around 20 seconds to open or close and this can be done at up to 60 kmph.
The CLE Cabriolet comes equipped with an electronic wind deflector system. At the press of a button, little deflectors emerge from underneath the rear head restraints to lessen cabin turbulence. For added comfort, Mercedes includes its Airscarf heating system as standard. This function circulates warm air over the necks and throats of front-seat occupants.
The cabin hoasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen tilted slightly toward the driver, as well as the same circular air vents. The steering wheel has a flat bottom and is coated in leather, while the front seats are heated and have four-way lumbar support as standard. Optional features include seat ventilation and a seven-zone massage function. There's a 64-colour ambient lighting system as well as standard Burnmester surround sound with Dolby Atmos, which comprises two speakers embedded in each front seat.
Mercedes Benz CLE Cabriolet: Powertrains
In terms of the engines, the CLE Cabriolet will offer the same powertrains as its Coupe sibling. The only diesel variant on offer will be the 220d with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 197PS and 440Nm of torque.
The rest of the lineup consists of several petrol variants. The CLE 200 comes with rear-wheel drive and an optional all-wheel drive and is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 204PS and 320Nm of torque. The same engine is utilized in the four-wheel-drive CLE 300 4Matic producing a total of 258PS and 400Nm.
The more powerful CLE 450 4Matic comes equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine that puts down 381PS and 500Nm of torque. This variant is good enough for a 4.7-second sprint from 0 to 100 kmph and a peak speed of 250 kmph.
