Jeep Avenger 4xe is the baby SUV we all wanted from Jeep
In Europe, the Jeep Avenger is available with electric, hybrid, and petrol-only powertrains. One thing it lacks is four-wheel drive, which kind of defeats the purpose of owning a Jeep. Stellantis has announced that that won't be the case anymore as the Jeep Avenger 4xe with all-wheel drive has been teased and Jeep will start accepting orders by the end of 2024.
Jeep Avenger 4xe: Design and Interior
The Avenger debuted as an EV in mid-2023, with a cheaper pure-petrol variation joining the lineup a few months later, both having front-wheel drive. At the 2022 Paris Motor Show, Jeep hinted at intentions for an off-road version of the tiny SUV with the Avenger 4x4 concept.
This latest sketch from Jeep depicts the new Avenger 4xe, which appears to be very comparable to the Concept that was showcased. There's a noticeable roof rack on top, raised suspension, and hefty off-road tyres, but that's all we have for now.
The 4xe concept's interior has never been disclosed and will stay so for the time being. However, the production car should include the same two 10.25-inch displays found in the current Avenger lineup. The bigger, more complex hybrid drivetrain may compromise on useable trunk capacity.
Jeep Avenger 4xe: Powertrain
Up till now, Jeep has sold Cherokee, Wrangler, Compass and Renegade 4xe variants as plug-in hybrids only. The Avenger 4xe though won't follow this trend. This one features a 48-volt mild hybrid system that combines a 136PS internal combustion engine with two 28PS electric motors.
One of the motors is integrated into the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which provides power to all four wheels independent of the battery's state of charge. The Avenger 4xe may also run on electric power at slow speeds, however no range is specified.
Eric Laforge, Head of the Jeep brand in Europe, commented: "The new Jeep Avenger 4xe represents a turning point for the brand. The latest version of our successful model brings together the compactness and versatility of Avenger with the performance of the all-wheel drive system. The result is an unparalleled capability for a more dynamic driving experience. The new Avenger 4xe is completing the brand's offering of 4x4 SUV in all segments".
Jeep India Plans
Jeep currently retails the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in India. While the Compass range starts from Rs 20.69 lakh, the Grand Cherokee is priced at Rs 80.50 lakh. There are a couple of more SUVs on the cards but not anytime this year. We could expect the Avenger in its EV form to debut in India in the future as the small electric SUV market is on the rise.
