Jeep Meridian to be launched in India on May 19
Jeep India will launch the Jeep Meridian three-row SUV on May 19. Bookings for the Meridian have already begun for a Rs 50,000 deposit and deliveries are expected to commence in June. Stellantis India has also begun production of the Jeep Meridian at its Ranjangaon facility which it runs as a joint-venture with Tata Motors. The firm says the Meridian has undergone over 10 lakh cumulative km of testing and will carry an 82 per cent localisation level at launch.
2022 Jeep Meridan dimensions, engine, gearbox
The Jeep Meridian is 4,769mm long, 1,859mm wide and 1,698mm tall. This makes it 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 58mm taller than the Compass. The Meridian has a 146mm longer wheelbase than the Compass, at 2,782mm. Ground clearance is 203mm.
The three-row Jeep SUV is powered by the familiar 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine, improved here for better NVH although it still outputs the same 170PS and 350 Nm. The gearbox options remain unchanged too, with a six-speed manual and nine-speed torque converter on offer, the latter reworked for more responsiveness. The Meridian will be available in 4x2 with both manual and automatic options and a 4x4 automatic option.

The Jeep Meridian will be offered in two variants - Limited and Limited(O). The Meridian Limited gets features like LED projector headlamps, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED cornering fog lamps, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, driver seat height adjust, keyless-entry, push-button start, powered mirrors, dual-zone climate control, 7-inch semi-digital instrumentation, wireless charging, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with nine speakers.
The Limited(O) variant of the Jeep Meridian further adds a dual-pane sunroof, powered tailgate, two-tone exterior paint, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and 360-degree camera.
Standard safety features include six airbags, electronic parking brake, traction control, ESC, TPMS.
2022 Jeep Meridan practicality, off-road features
The Meridian has a 60/40 split-folding second-row with sliding, reclining and tumble functions. The third-row is a 50/50 split with reclining and a flat folding function. Boot-spcae with all three rows in use is 170-litre which increases to 481-litres wth the third row folded.
Being a Jeep, the Meridian also has significant offroading capabilities. The AWD is offered with the AT Limited(O) and in this form the Meridian has a 21.5-degree approach, 23.1-degree breakover and 23.6-degree departure angles. The rear-multilink suspension setup continues with frequency-selective dampers, AWD drive modes, 4-Low mode, hill-descent control, 16-inch inches of water-wading capacity and a 20.426 crawl ratio.
2022 Jeep Meridan expected price, rivals, launch date
The Jeep Meridian will go up against the likes of the MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner, with prices at a Rs 2 to 4 lakh premium over the Compass. The Meridan will reach showrooms and be available for test drives by mid-May and deliveries will begin in June.
