Jeep Wrangler achieve 5 million sales milestone
Jeep has announced the sale of its 5 millionth Wrangler, marking a historic milestone for the famous vehicle. The vehicle is a 2023 Wrangler 4xe Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition in Earl exterior paint.
The Jeep Wrangler has been the brand's icon and one of the most recognised nameplates in the industry since its debut as a 1987 model at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show, replacing the Jeep CJ and maintaining the history set by the original 1941 Willys MB.
The first Jeep Wrangler, model code YJ, hit the assembly line 37 years ago at the American Motors Corporation plant. Between 1987 and 1995, the YJ sold 630,000 units. The TJ followed in 1996, the JK in 2006, and the JL in 2017.
This landmark achievement for the brand coincides with the release of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler, which will be marketed in markets worldwide.
Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America said "With five million Wranglers sold, the Jeep brand continues to grow fueled by the unwavering passion of the Jeep global community. With legendary 4x4 capability, open-air-freedom and a timeless design, the Wrangler embodies the spirit and the soul of the Jeep brand. Over 80 percent of the five million Wranglers sold since 1986 are still on the road, having fun out there and showcasing the amazing staying power of the vehicle. Our new 2024 Wrangler raises the bar once again as the most capable Wrangler yet, with more technology, safety features and refinement."
Since the introduction of the Wrangler YJ as a single two-door model with two engine options - a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and a 4.2-litre inline six-cylinder - each subsequent iteration of the Wrangler has been designed to be even more refined and comfortable for daily use, while still providing customers with the world's most off-road capable and iconic SUV.
With a selection that includes Sport, Sport S, Sahara, Willys, Rubicon, new Rubicon X, High Altitude, and Rubicon 392, the all-new 2024 Jeep Wrangler provides more capabilities, sophisticated technology features, and refinement than ever before.
