JLR-based Tata Avinya EV to debut by late 2025 with over 550 km range
More details have now emerged of the partnership between Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover for the development of the Avinya series of EVs.
Tata Avinya EV expected price, launch date
Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head of High-Voltage Programs at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said in a group interaction that Tata Motors has been a part of the development of the JLR's Electrified Modular Architecture for some time now, despite the recent announcement. It seems the Avinya EVs will complement the Gen 3 architecture developed in-house by Tata Motors but may be priced at a higher premium. This should mean a price point of upwards of Rs 30 to 35 lakh. The first JLR EVs based on this architecture will launch by early 2025 with Tata Motor's version of it coming by late 2025.
While the top hat will be localized in India, as seen with the concept, Tata Motors will also look at adding more localization to the skateboard architecture over the course of its life cycle. The platform will also not just underpin the crossover Avinya concept already seen but will include a range of bodystyles.
Tata Avinya EV expected range, charging, performance
The EMA architecture will include the latest in EV tech. This means a cell-to-pack battery arrangement, a fully integrated drive unit as well as very high-speed charging capabilities and V2X solutions as debted on the Nexon EV recently. Kurkarni said that Tata Motors will not look to pack in as much range as possible into these products, instead try to create a more premium offering by balancing range and cabin features and ambience which should also keep costs in check. Range numbers could start at about 550 km in the real world although charging speeds will be quite quick at between 150 to 300 kW.
There will be rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of this architecture so while no specific details on outputs were shared, but expect these EV to have around 300PS of power in the single motor and around 400Ps in the dual-motor versions. Battery sizes too should be around 70 to 80 kWh.
Tata Avinya EV expected features, safety
With the EMA being a born electric skateboard architecture, Tata Motors says that interior space, practicality, refinement and cabin ambience will be given quite a bit of importance. This architecture will support Level 2+ ADAS features upgradable to level 3, over-the-air updates for software and features as well as safety levels at Euro NCAP and over.
If the Avinya concept is anything to go by there will also be the latest in comfort features with a minimalist layout should with screens and other functions.
