June issue is out on stands now
The June 2012 issue of OVERDRIVE is here with the latest first drives, exclusive stories, road tests, comparisons and features, all ready to get your adrenaline pumping. First up is the Rs 57 lakh new Mercedes M-Class with its eyes set firmly on the premium luxury SUV segment. It promises more power, torque and fuel efficiency than its competitors like the X5 and the Q7. To certify this, Joe takes it to a mango farm to check out the 'M' connection, tastes the mangoes and in between also finds time to get a road test done.
In an exclusive coup, Ray Hutton gets to drive the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, the same one which will be coming in the Ford EcoSport in India. He also drove the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, a SUV with lofty proportions and which is slated for an Indian launch sometime in the near future and ready to challenge the Land Rover and Mercedes at what they do best, all this while costing less. Closer to home, Ashok hits the town with the new Mini Cooper S and manages to grab plenty of eyeballs, one or two even looked at him. Grumbling about the lack of attention Ashok then took the Mini Cooper Convertible on the pretext of a road test.
The new Hyundai Sonata is ready to impress the Indian back benchers. Joe pits it against the Skoda Superb Ambition and the Honda Accord to find out which one has the best back seat. Halley has become a BIC regular and this time his excuse was to drive the new BMW M5, in his favourite colour, blue. While Halley was 'burning' petrol, our TV producer Sandeep decided to go all eclectic about an electric car in electronic land - the Renault Twizy.
If you are wondering if the 'Shumi' section will be quiet this month, then you are absolutely wrong. Shumi got astride the new Honda CBR150R but then the motorcycle didn't quite get him gushing about it as much as its competition the R15 did. The market is swarming with new 250cc machines and Hyosung is quick to realise the potential of bringing back its Comet 250 in a fully faired R avatar. Abhay puts the Hyosung GT250R to the test even before its commercially launched in India. Not quite content, he also compares the GT250R to its competition, the Ninja 250R. Now, that enough about the "sporty" machines. The Harley-Davidson cruisers - Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC and FXDB Dyna Street Bob are put through the road test scalpel.
Well, that's not all folks. Bert was at the Beijing Motor Show and he has got a complete report of it. He saw the production ready Ford EcoSport and many other models scheduled for India. Plus we have all the happenings from the world of Indian and international motorsports and news from the automotive sector. Lest we forget about the features, we have Rishaad go all the way to Myanmar for the Indo-Myanmar friendship rally and come back after eating all kinds of "uncivilized" things.
So, what are you waiting for? Go grab your copy from the stands today. If you are too lazy to do that, subscribe to OVERDRIVE and as a bonus, you could win a Ducati Monster 795 or other gifts. Hurry up! The offer closes on June 31, 2012.
