Kia Sonet facelift makes its debut in India

After a long wait, Kia India has officially unveiled the facelifted Kia Sonet. This is the first refresh for the popular sub-4m SUV since its market debut in mid-2020. The South Korean carmaker is expected to announce the prices of the updated sub-four-metre SUV early next year with pre-bookings for the vehicle set to begin on December 20.

Kia Sonet facelift: Variants and Colours

The refreshed Sonet will be available in seven trim levels: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X-Line, with 11 exterior color options. Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Imperial Blue, Clear White, Pewter Olive, and Matte Graphite are among the monotone tones. The dual-tone colors, on the other hand, are Intense Red and Glacier White Pearl with a black roof.

Kia Sonet facelift: Design

A somewhat wider grille with new inlays now flanks a pair of redesigned LED headlights with new DRLs that now reach downwards. Below it is the redesigned bumper, which is more minimalist and has slim LED fog lights. The 16-inch alloy wheels on the Sonet facelift are likewise redesigned. The Sonet facelift has a rear LED light strip that joins the two vertical, C-shaped taillights. A redesigned bumper and a roof-mounted spoiler are also notable characteristics at the back.

Kia Sonet facelift: Powertrains

The existing 83PS and 115Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine, the 120PS and 172Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 116PS and 250Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine are set to be retained in the Sonet facelift.

The 1.2-litre gasoline unit will only be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol and diesel engines maintain the 6-speed iMT, but the diesel now gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol and diesel engines are also available with 7-speed dual-clutch and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions.

Kia Sonet facelift: Interior and Features

The general dashboard layout of the 2024 Kia Sonet facelift is identical as the previous model, except for a redesigned climate control interface. Higher-end models get new interior colour schemes to update the cabin. The most noticeable alteration to the Sonet's interior is the adoption of a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster derived from the bigger Seltos SUV. It also maintains the big centrally positioned 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Kia has added additional features to the Sonet with this upgrade, including a 360-degree camera and, most crucially, select ADAS functions. Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance assistance and warning, high beam assist, lane keeping assist, and other functions are included. All trims come standard with six airbags, hill-start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ESC, while higher trims feature cornering lighting and a four-way powered driver's seat.

The refreshed new mini SUV gets creature comforts such as ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a built-in air purifier, 70+ connected car features, leatherette upholstery, a Bose audio system, LED ambient lighting and a sunroof.

Kia Sonet facelift: Prices

The pre-facelift Sonet was priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the new prices to start from Rs 7.99-8.20 lakh and go up to Rs 15.20-15.60 lakh. Upon launch, it will take on the Tata Nexon facelift, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 facelift.
