Kia Sonet garners one lakh sales within a year of launch
Kia India revealed today that its small SUV, the Kia Sonet, has now sold 1,00,000 units in India in less than a year after its introduction.
The Kia Sonet, which debuted in September 2020, has quickly established itself as a market leader, accounting for over 17 percent of the segment's sales and 32 percent of Kia's entire sales.
The Kia Sonet is the only compact SUV with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and automatic transmission, accounting for over 10% of total sales. Customers of the Kia Sonet have a strong preference for the top-of-the-line versions, which account for about 64% of all vehicles sales. They also have a strong desire for modern automobile technologies, with over 30% preferring a linked Sonet version and 26% opting for the groundbreaking iMT technology.
Speaking on the milestone, Tae-Jin Park, Executive Director and Chief Sales & Business Strategy Officer, Kia India said, "The Sonet was launched when the auto industry was facing its worst slump in history with the advent of COVID-19 pandemic. The market was battling rock-bottom customer sentiment amidst manufacturing and supply chain setbacks. We introduced the Sonet in September last year against all odds, and it would not be an understatement to say that it has rewritten Kia's success story in India and has made a stronghold in the segment with its industry-leading features and specifications. The one-fourth contribution of iMT variant in total sales testifies that the model has also revolutionised the adaption of new technologies. The PV segment has been witnessing multiple transformations over the years, and as a leading automaker, we are committed to the changing trends and offering new-age driving experience to our customers across segments."
Kia recently released a new, updated version of Sonet that includes 10 new features to improve consumer convenience and driving enjoyment. The Sonet has a strong and distinctive look that complements its numerous class-leading features and a variety of engine and gearbox options, making it one of the segment's most adaptable vehicles.
The Kia Sonet starts at Rs 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) and a range-topping GTX Plus dual-tone Sonet with an automatic transmission cost from Rs 13.55 lakh onwards.
