KTM India has added yet another weapon to its arsenal with the launch of the RC 125. Teasers from the manufacturer last week, not to forget test mules spotted earlier, had already confirmed that the KTM RC 125 is slated for an India launch and the bike goes on sale today, priced at Rs 1.47 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi. KTM India has indicated that prices for the motorcycle are introductory though. Also, at the price, the RC 125 retails at Rs 17,000 more than its naked sibling, the KTM 125 Duke. The RC 125 is effectively the smallest capacity, fully-faired sportsbike to be sold in India, and is expected to take on the uber-popular Yamaha YZF-R15, which needs no introduction as one of the highest-selling fully-faired motorcycles in the country. For the record, the KTM RC 125 commands a premium of Rs 8,000 over the YZF-R15.

The KTM RC 125 uses the same, 125cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as its naked version, the 125 Duke. The motor offers 14.5PS (produced at 9,250rpm) and 12Nm (produced at 8,000rpm) and is mated to the same six-speed gearbox as well. Needless to say, the DOHC engine is a high-strung motor with a lot of its performance concentrated at the top of the rev range, making for a peaky power delivery as you would expect of a sportsbike. Braking duties are taken care of by a 300mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear, and KTM is offering the RC 125 with a single-channel ABS only. The bike is suspended on 43mm upside-down forks at the front and a ten-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. Fuel tank capacity is rather low at 9.5 litres, while the dry weight of the RC 125 is 154.2kg, making it a slightly heavy motorcycle.

That said, the RC 125 is expected to be a quick, razor-sharp handling motorcycle and one that sets its sights on the younger crop of buyers looking for an entry-level sportsbike to help them cut their teeth in the world of fully-faired motorcycles. The RC 125 is effectively the third sportsbike from KTM in India, following the RC 200 and RC 390, which are the fully-faired versions of the 200 Duke and 390 Duke.
