Land Rover Defender Octa is a hybrid V8 Monster!
The AMG G63 has been enjoying much success over the years as one of the most powerful and capable 4x4s on the market. That's until now. This is the all-new Land Rover Defender Octa, the most extreme version of the Defender and it is clearly going after the G63. The SUV is based on the 110 version of the Defender and will make its public debut later this month at the Goodwill Festival of Speed.
The Defender already has a 5,0-litre V8 on offer but the powerplant of the Octa blows that out of the park. For starters, it is a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre unit and is assisted with a mild hybrid system. It puts a maximum of 635PS and up to 750Nm of torque. Torque output increases to 800Nm in Dynamic Launch Mode to aid in the Defender Octa's faster acceleration off the mark. The British brand says that's good enough to take this from a standstill to 100kmph in just 4 seconds.
The powertrain is mated to an 8-speed automated gearbox with high and low-range gears. Meanwhile, the top speed is electrically restricted to 250kmph.
For the ultimate off-road performance, Land Rover's 6D Dynamics chassis, which maximizes suspension articulation and eliminates body pitch and roll, is featured on the Octa. It has larger, stronger cross arms, innovative active dampers, and a stance that is 70mm wider and 28mm higher than the conventional Defender.
Redesigned bumpers enhance the approach, breakaway, and departure angles over the standard Defender 110s, and the wading depth is increased by 100mm to one meter of water. With a pair of 20-inch wheels on the Edition One or 22-inch wheels on the basic Octa, a set of six-piston Brembo callipers and 400mm rotors up front handle braking duties. 33-inch Goodyear Advance All-Terrain tyres, developed specifically for the Octa, put power down on the tarmac.
Two new colours, Petra Copper and Faroe Green (unique to the Edition One), are added to the Defender portfolio with the Defender Octa. All Defender Octa versions have a gloss Narvik Black contrast roof and tailgate, although matte protection film is an available extra.
New Performance seats with increased support and integrated headrests are included inside the Defender Octa. The business is also introducing its Body and Soul Seat audio system to the Defender for the first time. A brand-new Ultrafabric, composed of 3D-knit material and available in pair tones of Khaki and Ebony, is housed inside the Defender Octa Edition One. The regular Defender Octa will include Ebony Kvadrat textile trim and Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather.
