Lexus unveils advanced safety research car
Toyota and Lexus have been silently working on a new technology, one which will help drivers to make apt judgment during driving. At the CES 2013 held in North America, Lexus showcased an LS sedan equipped with three high-definition cameras which can detect objects up to a distance of 500 feet. The LS also had 360-degree lasers which will warn the driver of objects within a distance of 220 feet. To keep track of vehicles at intersections, there are three radar units as also GPS which determines the orientation.
Tests on this car are being carried out at the Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Japan across an 8.6-acre testing facility. The aim behind these technologies is to reduce crashes as also make for better drivers. Additionally, Toyota is also researching new rescue systems in the event of a crash. All this safety research, Toyota says will lead to a fully autonomous car in the future.
