Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar three-door: What is different?
The launch of the Mahindra Thar Roxx is now just hours away. The full reveal of the Thar 5-door will happen on the occasion of India's 77th Independence Day. But before that we compare the new Thar Roxx with the Thar 3-door to find out what Mahindra has given to the new model.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar three-door: Design
The new Thar Roxx looks substantially larger than its Thar three-door. But it still carries some design cues from the on-sale SUV. It gets redesigned face with a new grille painted in the same colour as the exterior, LED projector headlights with daytime running lights, and LED fog lights. The front is reminiscent of the Thar three-door, though. On the side, there are some creases, distinctive C-pillar, door-frame mounted handles, chunky wheel arches, and newly designed alloy wheels on the Thar five-door. In addition, Mahindra has given it reworked taillamps and bumper. In contrast, the Thar three-door still comes with halogen headlights, black grille, and conventional placement of door handles.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar three-door: Interior
The Thar Roxx has been bestowed with a range of new features to position it not only as an off-roader but also as a lifestyle SUV. Hence there is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch fully instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Adrenox connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic temperature control, a Harman Kardon sound system, rear bench seat, electronic dial for 4WD modes, front armrest, and leatherette/leather upholstery, among others. All these features are not available with the on-sale Thar. Not to mention, the Thar Roxx will also get ADAS, likely Level 2 autonomy, which has never been offered with the Thar three-door.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar three-door: Engine specifications
The details about the engine are scarce at the moment, but we expect it to get the same engines as the Thar: a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine generating 152PS and 300Nm of torque (320Nm with AT) and a 2.2-litre inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit that delivers 132PS and 300Nm of torque. Also, there is a possibility of Mahindra offering it with more powerful petrol and diesel engines from the Scorpio-N, which makes 175PS/370Nm of torque (400Nm with AT) in petrol version and 200PS/370Nm (380Nm with AT) in diesel guise.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar three-door: Price
The price of the new Thar Roxx are likely to be between Rs 13-16 lakh and Rs 19-22 lakh. In contrast, the Thar costs Rs 11.35-17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
