Mahindra XUV 500 unmasked
September 28th is the day Mahindra & Mahindra plan to unveil their global SUV â" the XUV500 (five double O). This D-segment crossover SUV has generated quite a lot of buzz and Mahindra has been extremely secretive about it. But our one of our dedicated readers, Suraj Navale, has been able to sniff out some pictures and here's the unmasked picture. Also visit the gallery to see our artist's impression of what we had predicted it will look like. What the image shows is a busy-looking front-end with a lot of detail but with a clear sense of masculinity, a more horizontal articulation of the Mahindra grille.
We have seen interiors of the SUV and they are dramatically improved over anything seen in a Mahindra. Space will be good though there is no third row of seats and overall proportions closely resemble that of the Suzuki Grand Vitara. The pricing of the vehicle is expected to be around Rs 15 lakh. This means it will be priced above the Scorpio, Toyota Innova and below the Tata Aria, Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Yeti.
This monocoque SUV which has taken almost four years to build will be available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive options. Both variants are expected to have Scorpio's 2179cc mHawk engine which produces a peak power of 120PS and 290Nm of maximum torque. It will have options of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Pictures reveal Xenon headlamps with daytime LED lights and fog lights with clear view. The SUV is supposed to have gadgets like rain-sensitive wiper and sunlight-sensitive headlamp. Along with India the XUV will also be launched in South Africa by the end of this year.
