Mahindra XUV300 electric spied ahead of debut this year
The production-spec Mahindra eXUV300 has been spotted testing ahead of its planned launch in India this year. The electric Mahindra XUV300 was first shown at the 2020 auto expo but has been delayed due to the chip shortage and the COVID19 pandemic. The immense success of the Mahindra XUV700 and the Thar may have impacted its launch too.
2022 Mahindra XUV300 electric styling, expected specifications, expected price
The spy images show that the electric Mahindra XUV300 will remain visually similar to the standard XUV300 with most body panels and the underlying architecture shared between the two variants. However, the test mule does seem to have a charge port in the front fender. Also expected is a new fascia with a blanked-out grille section, a revised bumper, sharper headlamps and blue highlighting. There should also be a efficient focused design for the alloy wheels as well as a mildly reworked rear end.
The Mahindra eXUV300 as this car is expected to be called will get a new high-voltage EV architecture named the MESMA 350 (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture). The Mahindra XUV300 electric is expected to be powered by a 40kWh battery which will give it a power output of 132PS, with a range of about 300Km in a single charge. The eXUV300 will go up against the Tata Nexon EV and should charge a similar Rs 2 to 3 lakh premium over the standard car.
Upcoming Mahindra EVs
Mahindra will also launch the eKUV100 aimed largely at fleet buyers which should come with a roughly 150km range. But come 2025, Mahinda will launch two ground-up EV models. These should be compatible with the MESMA EV architecture that debuted at the Auto Expo and should be able to accommodate battery sizes of up to 80 kWh around a 350V architecture and dual motors. There will be a stronger focus on in-car connectivity, design and human-machine interfaces. The two Mahindra electric SUVs will likely be positioned in the compact and C-segment to be accessible to the largest set of SUV buyers, range and charge times should be on par with other contemporary offerings.
