The latest set of Global NCAP crash tests has revealed that the Maruti Suzuki WagonR has scored 1 star for adult crash rating and 0 stars for child safety while the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 came away with a 2-star safety rating for adult protection and a 0-star rating for child occupant protection. This isn't the first time Maruti Suzuki vehicles have failed the Global NCAP crash test as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, S-Presso and Ignis scored a mere 1 star in the crash test done in December 2022.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Crash Test:

The WagonR hatchback received 19.69 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection and 3.40 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. The latter resulted in a kid occupancy rating of zero stars. There was no side pole impact testing since the automobile has just two front airbags and no curtain airbags. In addition, the WagonR received 6.7 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 13 points in the side moveable deformable barrier test.

In the frontal crash test, it was discovered that the driver received 'good' neck protection but just 'adequate' head protection. Where things don't seem too good is the driver's chest area which received a 'weak' protection rating, while the knees received 'marginal' protection.

The WagonR comes standard with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a seat reminder system, and seat pre-tensioners and load limiters for the front-row occupants. The model's body shell was deemed unstable. Keeping in mind that the has a base price of Rs 5.53 lakh (ex-showroom) these results don't come as a major shock.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Crash Test:

In adult occupant protection, the 2023 Alto K10 received 21.67 points out of a potential 34 points, including 8.2 points in a frontal offset deformable barrier test and 12.4 points in a side moveable deformable barrier test. In terms of child occupant protection, the Alto K10 received just 3.52 points out of a possible 49. This solely contains the CRS (child restraint system) installation score because the dynamic score was 0 points.

In the frontal impact test the Alto K10 received 'good' in the head and neck region for both, the driver as well as the passenger but received 'marginal' to 'poor' rating in the knee areas. The impact on the chest too didn't make much of a difference as it scored a mere 'marginal'.

Safety features on India spec Alto K10 include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a speed alert system, and a seat-reminder system. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 starts at Rs 3.99 lakh.
