Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door leaked ahead of Auto Expo 2023 debut
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door has been leaked in a set of spy images, ahead of the 4x4's reveal at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The photos are from a commercial shoot and reveal quite a few details about the larger Jimny's styling.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door styling, dimensions
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door seems notably longer than the current three-door model. The second-row doors are fairly small and cut into the wheel arches while the window here is again a simple square shape. The rear quarter glass is again quite the simple vertically rectangular shape. The boot door seems to be carried over from the standard Jimny although there is now a black wheel cover for the spare wheel. It is unclear with the Jimny will be available in both 5 or 7-seater options. The example seen here seems to be a 5-seater.
The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be 3,850mm long, 1,645mm wide and 1,730mm tall. This makes it 300mm longer than the 3-door Jimny, although the width and height remain unchanged. All the added length has been to the wheelbase, which is now 2,550 so the 3-door Jimny's approach and departure angles should not be affected much. The front track remains unchanged at 1,395mm as does the rear at 1,405mm.
The rest of the Jimny 5 door seems to carry over from the standard car. You get similar-looking alloy wheels, the same fender flares and paint scheme. The front should also be largely similar, maybe with some minor cosmetic changes to differentiate this version from the 3-door.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door engine, gearbox
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is expected to be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol. This is the same unit as seen on cars like the Ciaz and in the Jimny makes 102PS at 6,000rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000rpm. The two gearbox options are a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic globally, although the new six-speed automatic seen in newer Marutis could make an appearance here.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door chassis and off-roading features
This fourth-gen Jimny continues with a ladder frame construction, sat on live axles at both ends, which will continue with the longer wheelbase version. There is the AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a low range transfer case as well as a brake-based limited-slip differential. A hill-hold and hill-descent function is also available. The Jimny in three-door form has a 27-degree approach, 28-degree ramp break-over and 48-degree departure angle. Ground clearance is 210mm.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door launch date, expected price, rivals
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will debut in India in January at the Auto Expo and should be priced around the Brezzza between Rs 10 to 15 lakh. The SUV should launch a few months post that and will compete with the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
