Maruti Suzuki to launch BSVI petrol Vitara Brezza and S-Cross before April 2020
A news outlet has quoted a source from Maruti Suzuki who confirms that the BSVI petrol versions of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross SUVs will in India in the last quarter of the current 2019-20 financial year which is between January and March 2020.
These SUVs are currently only available with a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine, which will not be further upgraded. Anyway, Maruti has stated that small diesel engines may not be viable in the BSVI era. The firm will study market trends after April 2020 before it decides on whether to sell BSVI diesel engines.
Maruti Suzuki has been an early starter in implementing BSVI specifications on its cars, with most of its range now available with this option. The company has sold over three lakh such vehicles in the last seven months. We think the S-Cross will get the 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol as seen in the Ciaz with 104PS and 138Nm, and added mild-hybrid tech.
The Vitara Brezza was, until recently, the most popular sub-four-metre SUV in India. In recent months, the Hyundai Venue has taken over that mantle from it.
Shashank Srivastava, executive director of marketing, Maruti Suzuki India, said at a press conference, ""The company will soon bring the BS-6 standard petrol variant of Brezza and S-Cross. As the new emission norms are coming into force from April 1, 2020, we will bring BS-6 petrol Brezza and S Cross in the fourth quarter (January-March) of this financial year."
