Mercedes-AMG is reportedly developing 1,000+PS electric SUV
Mercedes' AMG division is reportedly developing a new electric SUV with over 1,000 horsepower, set to debut in 2026. According to media reports, this EV will use a new platform, distinct from current Benz offerings.
This new SUV from the brand is said to be positioned as a flagship electric model, built on an exclusive EV platform, and is expected to offer high performance and advanced driving dynamics. It may share its design with existing Mercedes models, making it a purely AMG-engineered vehicle. More importantly, it might use at least two or more electric motors, not only making it an all-wheel-drive but also to provide a combined output of over 1,000PS.
This unnamed SUV could mirror the high-performance aspirations of the Vision AMG, potentially replacing the AMG GT four-door coupe as AMG's bespoke electric offering. It is also suggested that this model will be manufactured at Mercedes' Sindelfingen plant in Germany, sharing production lines with a new sedan. While AMG is focusing on SUVs and sedans for now, the success of these models might pave the way for an all-electric sports car in the future.
The size of the upcoming SUV is likely to be similar to the Vision AMG concept. With this, it is set to compete with other high-end electric SUVs, such as the Lotus Eletre and a new model from Porsche, along with it will also be a direct rival to BMW's XM plug-in hybrid.
