Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster launched in India, priced at Rs 2.35 crore
After successfully launching the AMG E 53 Cabriolet and AMG GT 63 S E Performance in India, Mercedes-Benz has now also launched the AMG SL 55 4Matic+ Roadster at Rs 2.35 crore. The new convertible from the German marquee will be available as a CBU in the country.
The SL has been one of the longest-standing names in the Mercedes-Benz lineup and is now in its 7th Generation. In India, we've only had the 5th-generation SL, which debuted in 2012, while the 6th-generation did not make its way to India.
Mercedes-AMG SL55 Roadster: Design
Mercedes has used an electric soft top in the SL 55 Roadster instead of a metal vario roof used in the previous generation's models. As a result, the convertible is lighter by 21kg, boosting the lower centre of gravity and enhanced driving dynamics handling. The roof can be opened and closed in just 15 seconds, even while driving at a speed of 60kmph.
The soft-top roadster receives a brand-new architecture, design, and technology, as well as a two-row seating arrangement. The Panamericana grille, sweptback LED headlights, a sleek air dam, multi-spoke alloy wheels painted black, blacked-out ORVMs, wraparound tail lights, an adjustable spoiler, and quad-tip exhausts are just some of the Roadster's exterior highlights.
Mercedes-AMG SL55 Roadster: Powertrain and Suspension
Powering the AMG SL 55 Roadster is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 mill in conjunction with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This engine generates 475PS and 700Nm of torque compared to 585PS and 800Nm of torque of the top-rung AMG SL 63.
The carmaker has even tweaked the V8 for the SL. For reference, the changes to the engine include a new oil pan, optimised inlet and outlet ducts, repositioned intercoolers, active crankcase ventilation, and new engine mapping, among others. With the help of a 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, the SL 55 can achieve zero to 100kmph in just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 295kmph.
The SL 55 comes fitted with AMG Ride Control with steel suspension and aluminium shock absorbers, and lightweight coil springs. The firm claims that, first time, a series production AMG model is equipped with a multi-link front axle setup. It also gets active rear-axle steering as standard.
Mercedes-AMG SL55 Roadster: Interior and Features
On the inside, there is an 11.9-inch vertically aligned MBUX touchscreen infotainment system, a HUD, a completely digital instrument panel, carbon-fibre inlays, ambient lighting, and other AMG-specific embellishments. There are different driving modes available, such as slippery, comfort, sport, sport+, and individual. AMG Dynamics is also part of the AMG Dynamic Select driving modes.
