Mercedes-Benz India to launch Maybach GLS, S 63 E Performance on 22 May
Mercedes-Benz has set the stage to launch the refreshed Maybach GLS 600 and AMG S 63 E Performance in India on 22 May, 2024. The GLS range, including the Maybach GLS and AMG GLS 63, had received an update last year, bringing in 48V mild hybrid functionality, new colours, fresh interior trims, and additional standard equipment. Whereas, the flagship S-Class' high-performance version, the S 63 has been fitted with an electric motor and a battery pack, making the V8-powered saloon the most potent S-Class to date.
Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600: Highlights
The refreshed Mayback GLS comes with updated headlight cluster, signature vertical chrome bars and the "Maybach" lettering, air inlet grilles with the Maybach pattern and chrome accents, and new 23â'inch Maybach alloy wheels. Additionally, the Maybach GLS facelift also benefits from two new colours, namely Sodalite Blue (metallic) and Manufaktur Alpine Grey (non-metallic).
On the inside, the ambient lighting with an animated projection of the Mercedesâ'Maybach pattern is now standard. There is also newly designed seat covers, a new steering wheel, updated MBUX, diamond-pattern quilting with specific perforations for the centre sections of the seat surfaces and backrests, and Maybach exclusive colour combinations Manufaktur crystal white/silver grey pearl as well as Manufaktur mahogany brown/macchiato beige, among others.
With the optional MBUX entertainment setup, rear-seat passengers, they can use up to three touchscreens, and access a variety of control options, such as the "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant. In fact, the voice assistant can now be activated without the keyword "Hey Mercedes".
Powering the Maybach GLS is the 3,982cc turbocharged V8 engine producing 557PS and 730Nm of torque, which now benefits from 22PS and 250Nm of additional brief power boost from the electric motor. With this, it can go from zero to 100kmph in 4.2 seconds and tops out at 250kmph.
Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance 4matic+: Highlights
While the engine downsizing is a departure from the norm, Mercedes-AMG is trying to keep the big V8 alive, at least with its flagship high-performance automobiles, albeit some form of electrification. And the S 63 E Performance is the latest example, which still carries over its V-8 but with inevitable electrification.
More to the point, lies under the bonnet of the S 63 E Performance is the good-old 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, now paired with an electric motor at the rear axle and a 13.1kWh battery pack, which can be charged using an on board 3.7kW charger. As a result, a total output of the system stands at 802PS and 1,430Nm, enabling it to hit 100kmph mark from a standstill in just 3.3 seconds. Thanks to the sizable battery pack, the S 63 E Performance in an EV-only mode for up to 33km. Meanwhile, the optional AMG Driver's package offers an extended top speed of 290kmph.
Additionally, the placement of the motor and battery claimed to improve handling and weight distribution. There are seven driving modes, such as Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, and Individual.
In terms of design, the S 63 E Performance features the new AMG-spec grille, a front bumper with wider air intakes, 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, and signature AMG quad-exhaust tips. Inside, the interior has plush Nappa leather upholstery, exclusive AMG specific interior themes, and AMG steering wheel, and first-class style seats. Mercedes-AMG also offers active roll stabilisation and active rear-axle steering as standard.
