The Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive has set a new Nürburgring lap record for an electric production car, out-doing the time that the electric Audi R8 e-tron set last year. The SLS clocked a time of 7m 56.234sec around the 12.16-mile ring, becoming the first production electric car to lap it in less than eight minutes. The R8 e-tron's record was 8m 9.099sec.
The German automaker had decided to show what the SLS AMG Electric Drive was all about and the "green" supercar was taken to the famous Nürburgring racetrack.
The 2110kg SLS AMG Electric Drive has four synchronous electric motors, each powering a wheel, and the total output delivered is 750PS and 999Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration run is completed in just 3.9 seconds and the supercar tops out at a speed of 249 km/h. Two independent transmissions have been built-in that provide direct drive to each axle and the AMG Torque Dynamics system is able to provide selective drive to individual wheels depending on the type of traction available, in three different modes: comfort, sport and sport plus. Moreover, the energy and power efficiency systems used in the SLS were derived from the specialists behind the Formula 1 KERS technology.

The SLS AMG sports a carbon-fibre structure built around its battery assembly that helps increase overall stiffness and dynamics. There are also racing-style pushrod shocks and carbon ceramic brakes.
The price tag on the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive will be around Rs 3.19 crore, as per current exchange rates. Sales of the SLS AMG Electric Drive will commence in Europe this month, but there has been no word whether the US or other markets will get one.
