MG One SUV revealed based on new modular architecture
MG Motor has revealed the MG One, a mid-sized SUV that debuts a new Sigma architecture on which a full range of cars are set to follow. Also debuting is a new design language that will find its way into future MG models globally.
The Sigma architecture places a strong emphasis on interior space, says MG, and helps carve an interior space efficiency of up to 70 per cent by compressing the car's mechanical components into a much tighter space. It can also accommodate an advanced electrical architecture, more powerful computing as well as allow for a high level of connectivity and digital interfaces. The new structure is also very flexible and can support over 100 different modules which will let MG spawn a full range of body styles like hatchbacks, notchbacks, sports cars, off-roaders and SUVs. A wider range of powertrains can also be accommodated including hybrids.
The MG One's new design theme is also a result of the Sigma architecture, which also make for more balanced proportions inside and out. The One seems to carry a more European look with tauter bodywork and visibly more chiselled bodylines. The big attraction is the full-faced grille quite reminiscent of German cars with the heavily detailed patterns and the sharper-cut LED headlamps. The coupe-SUV shape ends in a rear with a high window sill, circular elements in the lighting and a striking body-coloured skidplate. The interiors of the MG One still haven't been revealed.
MG Motor India has not made any announcement on the MG One's prospects for the Indian market, but it is safe to assume that the Sigma architecture will eventually find its way to the Indian market in some form or another.
