MG Windsor EV launched in India at Rs 9.99 lakh
JSW MG Motor India has launched the new Windsor EV in India with prices starting at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is to be noted that the price is introductory. With this, MG is offering a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner, 60 per cent buyback after three years/45,000km, and one-year free charging at public chargers through the eHUB by MG app.
While the pricing is quite aggressive, there is a small catch. You would essentially only be renting the battery for Rs 3.5 per km of usage because the battery cost has not been factored into the asking price. This is part of MG's 'Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS)' programme a unique ownership experiencing concept. Therefore, even if you drive the Windsor EV for 50,000km, you will have to pay only Rs 1.75 lakh.
MG Windsor EV: Design
The Windsor has a unique theme to its styling. The split lighting arrangement fits well into the curvaceous nature of the car. Then, the LED DRL light strip, which includes the turn indicators, spans the width above the primary LED headlights located in the projecting portion of the bumper, much like what we see on the Comet EV.
There is nothing fancy about the side profile. It has smooth door handles and clean 18-inch alloy wheels for a premium look, and there are no wrinkles or cuts. Turn around to the rear of the Windsor EV and you will notice a chrome garnish and linked taillamps.
The new EV from MG will be available across three variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence across four colours options, namely Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.
MG Windsor EV Powertrain
The India-spec EV is powered by a 38kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 331km. The front axle-mounted electric motor makes 136PS and 200Nm of torque. There are four driving modes (Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport). The Windsor EV also supports DC fast charging, which MG claims can charge the battery in just 40 minutes.
MG Windsor EV Interior & Features
MG has outfitted the inside of the cabin in black and beige, with quilted patterns on the seats. The prominent 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system commands attention, making the 8.8-inch all-digital instrument cluster appear much smaller in contrast. When you get to the second row, the standout feature is a seatback that MG refers to as having "business class" seating, since it can electronically recline to a maximum of 135-degree. There is also a 604-litre worth of boot space.
The above-mentioned displays, air conditioning, rear AC vents, motorized front seats, a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless phone charging, a panoramic glass roof, air conditioning, rear centre armrest with cup holders and ambient lighting are just a few of its many amenities. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control.
