Fuel efficiency comparison

Among the contenders, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara stand out as the most fuel-efficient options with their 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol strong hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. They boast a claimed fuel economy of 27.97kmpl. On the other hand, the MG Astor's 1.3L turbo petrol automatic variant achieved the lowest fuel economy at 14.34kmpl.

The Honda Elevate's 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox achieves a fuel economy of 15.31kmpl, while the CVT automatic variant provides slightly better efficiency at 16.92kmpl.

For petrol-powered options, the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun stand out, with their 1.0L turbo-petrol manual variants offering close to 20kmpl. Whereas, the 1.5-litre TSI variants return mileage between 18-19kmpl.

Further, the 2023 Kia Seltos offers a diverse range of powertrain options, with its 1.5L turbo-diesel 6-speed iMT variant delivering a fuel economy of 20.70kmpl.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Creta's 1.5-litre petrol with a 6-speed CVT automatic gives out a mileage of 16.80kmpl and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic, being a diesel, provides a fuel economy of 18.00kmpl.

In this comparison of fuel efficiency among SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder stand out as the most fuel-efficient options on paper, boasting strong hybrid technology and impressive fuel economy figures. Following closely are the Kia Seltos diesel variant and the Skoda Kushaq/Volkswagen Taigun 1.0-litre turbo models, offering competitive fuel efficiency for their respective powertrains. On the other hand, the MG Astor lags behind with the lowest fuel economy among the SUVs compared.
