Mini Cooper 5-door & Countryman EV pre-launch bookings underway
BMW Group India will launch the all-new Mini Cooper 5-door and Countryman EV alongside the new eighth-generation BMW 5 Series LWB and BMW CE04 on 24 July. The two Mini's can now be pre-booked. Interested customers can book their preferred Mini by visiting their nearest Mini dealership or via the online store.
Mini Cooper 5-door
The new Cooper 5-door version was unveiled a couple of weeks ago with short overhangs, a small bonnet, a long wheelbase, and large wheels. The hatch bears a fresh minimalist design but carries over signature styling cues from the previous model. There are a range of colours available, including dual-tone paint schemes. The new tyre sizes range between 16 and 18 inches.
On the inside, the new-gen update brings newness to the cabin. Complementing the exterior, the interior has gone minimalist, eco-friendly, and tech-savvy. Mini has used a knitting process to make a textile of recycled polyester in dual-tone colour. The textile surfaces extend to the dashboard and door panels. Additionally, there is a large and slim circular touchscreen OLED display with Mini OS 9, while customers can opt for an optional heads-up display. The seven Mini Experience Modes can be selected to choose different lighting. A projector behind OLED displays colours and patterns on the dashboard.
For the 5-door version, the Cooper C and Cooper S come with two different engine options: a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that makes 156PS and 230Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor producing 204PS and 300Nm. The former can go to 100kmph from zero in eight seconds, while the latter takes 6.8 seconds. They provide a top speed of 225kmph and 242kmph, respectively.
New Mini Countryman EV
For the first time, the Mini Countryman gained an electric version a few months ago, and it now arrives in India. The electric crossover follows its sibling, the Cooper SE, which has been successful in the market.
The electric Countryman features a minimalist and modern yet familiar design, similar to the new Cooper SE. Both models bear the brand's design "Charismatic Simplicity". The electric crossover features an octagonal-shaped grille, LED headlamps with integrated angular DRLs, the Union Jack motifs in Matrix LED taillights, wheel sizes ranging up to 20 inches, and pull-up style door handles.
On the inside, the EV comes with a minimalist interior with a round OLED touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. The brand has removed several physical switches, keeping only a five-button setup, including the toggle bar. In addition, it gets a cloud-based navigation system, a voice assistant, a wireless charging pad, an optional heads-up display, USB Type-C fast charging ports, and more.
The Countryman EV comes in two trims: E and SE All4. The former gets a single electric motor, whereas the latter is fitted with two motors, making it an all-wheel-drive. With a 64.7kWh battery pack, the E delivers a WLTP range of 462km, while the SE All4 has a range of up to 433km. It supports 130kW DC fast charging and up to 22kW AC fast charging.
