New 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift revealed
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new 2020 E-Class range including the sedan and the all-terrain estate. In its fifth-generation, the W213 E-Class has almost been cosmetically revamped in its midlife update. To start with, the styling is all-new and the E-Class gets new front and rear styling.

The 'E' gets a singular integrated headlamp for the first time since the W210 generation and it now resembles the A-Class. Also taking cues from the A is the diamond grille and the three-part air dam. The tail design too has become sharper with the triangular swept back tail lamps and the angular twin exhaust tips for the sedan. The E-Class All-Terrain on the other hand gets cues from the SUVs from the stable for a muscular look. Since it is the same body shell, the profile remains the same except for the new set of alloys. The E53 AMG, the sportier E, gets the vertically slatted Panamericana grille and carbon-fibre accents to add sportiness to the design.

Inside, the new E-Class gets an all-new steering wheel while the dashboard gets two 10.25-inch displays, one for the MBUX infotainment system in the centre console and the other for the digital instrument cluster. Buyers will also be able to opt for the larger 12.3-inch displays and these can be configured in four different styles. The Touch control unit is now capacitive to enhance the functioning. The host of driver assistance systems have also been improved to enhance safety as well as the driving experience.

Coming to the powertrains, electrification has led to the first 4-cylinder petrol engine getting a 48V on-board electrical system with the integrated starter-generator (ISG) that offers 20PS more power and an additional 180Nm of torque. The new E-Class will be offered with the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine options along with the 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. It will get the 9-speed 9G-TRONIC gearbox that drives either the rear wheels or with the 4Matic all-wheel drive options. The E53 AMG will get the 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine mated to the AMG-spec 9-speed Speedshift gearbox and all-wheel drive.

This new E-Class is expected to go into production soon and should be on sale in the global market by mid-2020. Since it is one of the bestsellers for the Indian market, we expect Mercedes to bring the new 2020 E-Class to India in the latter half of 2020 and should be offered in as many variants as it is being offered right now.
