Electric scooter manufacturer Ather Energy has launched its most affordable electric scooter, called the 450S, in India, with prices starting at Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom). The Ola S1 Air rival offers an IDC range of 115km. The bookings of the new 450S have already opened, while its deliveries are likely to commence soon. Most importantly, Ather has updated the prices of its flagship 450X and 450X Pro Pack due to the recent revision in the FAME 2 scheme. As a result, the electric scooter now costs Rs 1.45 lakh for the standard variant and Rs 1.65 lakh for the Pro Pack variant (both ex-showroom, Bangalore).

New Ather 450S: Range and Battery

Powering the 450S is a 2.9kWh battery pack that has an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 115km. It benefits from the same permanent magnet synchronous motor as the 450X, however, it produces 5.4kW and 22Nm of torque instead of 6.4kW and 26Nm of torque. With this, the 450S can achieve zero to 40kmph in 3.9 seconds compared to 3.3 seconds of the 450X. In comparison, the 450X gets a 3.7kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 146km. Further, the 450S has a top speed of 90kmph, which is identical to its elder sibling.

New Ather 450S: Design

The 450S is identical to the 450X in terms of design except for the "450S" lettering on the apron to create a distinction between the two. In addition, the scooter gets the same four colour schemes. What is new on the electric scooter is a new switchgear. It is to be noted that the 450S lighter by 3.5kg over its elder sibling.

New Ather 450S: Features and Specs

While the 450X comes with a TFT colour touchscreen, the more affordable 450S features a new LCD display, which is not a touchscreen unit. It gets an auto brightness adjustment and Bluetooth connectivity, to connect a headset or a smartphone. On top of that, the 450S comes with an in-built 4G sim, an auto hold, park assist, and anti-theft and tow warning lights. Unlike the 450X, the 450S misses out on Warp mode.

New Ather 450S: Rivals

The newly launched Ather 450S competes against the likes of the Ola S1 Air (Rs 1.10 lakh), Bajaj Chetak (Rs 1.30 lakh), and the entry-level TVS iQube (1.32 lakh) in India. All prices are ex-showroom. To know more, do read our in-depth Ather 450S review.
