New Audi Q5 & SQ5 are finally here!
Audi seems to be going all out at the moment and the latest car to get a generation update is the Q5 and its sportier sibling, the SQ5. The car has been teased a few times and we now get to see the car in the flesh. Along with a more flashy design, Audi worked hard to improve the Q5's inside significantly.
New Audi Q5: Exterior & Interior
The first vehicle to use Audi's new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) is the Q5. It follows the A5's example with sharper-looking headlamps and a pointier "Singleframe" grille. In addition, the bodywork has more folds and creases and is notably longer than the outgoing model. However, most of the upgrades are seen in the back, with a more rakish tailgate and a pair of full-width taillights.
Arkona White, Glacier White, Mythos black, Floret Silver, Navarra Blue, Grenadine Red, District Green and the new colour Tambora Gray are the colours available on the new Q5. Ultra Blue metallic, Daytona Grey pearl effect and Sakhir Gold metallic are available exclusively for the S models or vehicles with exterior S line. Wheels sizes range between 17 to 21 inches with few aerodynamically optimized designs available as well.
New features have also been added to the inside of the new Q5 SUV. The 14.5-inch curved touchscreen infotainment system and the sizable 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit, or digital driver display, take centre stage on the SUV's dashboard. Additionally, a 10.9-inch screen is intended for the passenger in the front row. In addition to a wireless charger with a cold tray and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System, the SUV has an abundance of USB charging connections. When the back seats are folded down, the SUV's trunk capacity expands to 1,473 litres.
New Audi Q5: Powertrains
All cars come with a standard mild-hybrid tech that uses a new MHEV plus system with a 48-volt electrical system. Two petrol and one diesel engine will be among the range of mild hybrids that will serve as the power sources. The standard 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine on the brand-new 2024 Audi Q5 produces 204PS and 340Nm of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard but the iconic Quattro AWD system is an optional extra with this powertrain.
Similar in size and power to the petrol model, the turbocharged diesel variation offers an additional 60Nm of torque, for a total torque of 400 Nm. AWD is also included as a standard. Regarding the SQ5, the more aggressive variant has a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine that can put down 367PS and 550Nm.
New Audi Q5: India
Audi India has yet to let us know when the new car will hit our shores but we're almost certain it will and we expect the 2.0 TFSI with AWD to be the car that comes our way. Currently, the Audi Q5 is priced at Rs 65.51 lakh (ex-showroom) and rivals the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
