New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe makes global debut
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe first hit global markets in early 2020, offering an entry-level subcompact sedan with a variety of engine and trim options, including the high-performance M235i xDrive. Now, after several years, BMW has introduced the second generation of the 2 Series Gran Coupe, featuring a fresh design, a revamped interior, upgraded technology, and mild-hybrid assistance. Production of the new model will commence at BMW's Leipzig plant, with the market launch set for March 2025.
2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Design
The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has undergone a complete exterior makeover. Key features include adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beams, larger air intakes, and newly designed taillamps. Vertical daytime running lights, a sloping roofline, and stylish new alloy wheels further enhance its aesthetic appeal. The design draws inspiration from larger BMW models like the 5 Series, while a distinctive "2" embossed on the C-pillars highlights BMW's signature Hofmeister kink.
The updated model has also grown in size. Its length has increased by 20mm to 4,546mm, while the height is now 1,445mm - 25mm taller than its predecessor. With a wheelbase of 2,670mm and a width of 1,800mm, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe provides a more spacious and dynamic presence. Color options include two solid shades, seven metallic finishes, and four BMW Individual paint options, as well as high-gloss black roof contrast finishes for added flair.
In terms of performance, BMW has focused on enhancing the rigidity of the body structure and chassis, improving agility, steering precision, and cornering ability. The chassis has also been fine-tuned with optimized kinematics and a new shock absorber system. BMW has increased the caster offset of the front wheels, which enhances straight-line stability and provides better steering feedback. Standard features include directly controlled wheel slip limitation, an integrated braking system, and 17-inch alloy wheels, with optional sizes available up to 19 inches.
2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Interior
The interior of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been completely redesigned and is now leather-free. It features Veganza/Alcantara upholstery options with contrasting stitching on the dashboard. Milled aluminum backlit interior trims add a touch of elegance, while the standout BMW Curved Display offers two integrated screens and a new toggle-style gear selector.
BMW has also introduced new seating options, including sport seats available in Econeer material and M sport seats, which can be equipped with a massage function and lumbar support. All seat types come with heating and electric adjustment as standard. A new M leather steering wheel is available as an upgrade from the standard sports steering wheel. For enhanced safety, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is equipped with an interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger. The vehicle offers 430 liters of boot space, with the 220 Gran Coupe and 220d Gran Coupe providing 360 liters.
2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Engine Specifications
The highlight of the engine lineup is the BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe, which boasts a 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-scroll turbo engine producing 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque. This allows the M235i to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The model also features an M Technology package with lightweight construction, including 19-inch forged M alloy wheels and an M compound brake system.
The M235i xDrive comes equipped with adaptive M suspension, which enhances both agility and long-distance comfort by using variable, frequency-selective shock absorbers. The system lowers the vehicle by up to 8 mm, improving handling and incorporating sportier steering for an engaging driving experience.
In addition to the M235i xDrive, the engine lineup includes four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The 220 Gran Coupe is powered by a 170 PS engine, while the 220d Gran Coupe delivers 163 PS, and the 218d Gran Coupe produces 150 PS. All engines are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 220 Gran Coupe and 220d Gran Coupe also feature 48-volt mild-hybrid technology for improved efficiency.
2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Features
The new 2 Series Gran Coupe comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Standard features include the Driving Assistant package, which offers front collision warning, lane departure warning, exit warning, and speed limit information. The Reversing Assistant is also standard, making parking easier by guiding the vehicle in reverse along a previously driven path.
For those seeking more convenience, BMW offers optional features such as the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, automatic speed limit assist, and route speed control when using Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go. The Parking Assistant Professional allows drivers to control parking maneuvers from outside the vehicle using a smartphone and the My BMW app.
BMW has also increased the range of standard equipment for the new 2 Series Gran Coupe. It now includes BMW Live Cockpit Plus, featuring the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. Optional upgrades include the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a head-up display, augmented reality view on the control display, and Parking Assistant Plus.
