After the recent unveiling of the new X5 and X6 facelift, BMW has revealed the top-rung X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition, bringing in mild-hybrid functionality, aggressive design elements, and advanced tech.
New BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: Powertrain
Powering the high-performance X5 M and X6 M Competition is the tweaked twin-turbocharged, 4.4-litre V8 mill generating 625PS at 6,000rpm and 750Nm of torque between 1,800rpm and 5,800rpm. For the first time, BMW has given its high-performance models a 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance. In this case, this system offers a brief power boost of 12PS and 200Nm of torque. The engine is married to a new version of the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic, offering three shift settings in manual and automatic modes.
The new X5 M and X6 M Competition can achieve zero to 100kmph (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds. The pair tops out at 250kmph. However, the optional M Driver package provides an increased top speed of 290kmph.
Furthermore, the firm has bestowed the duo with a "newly adapted version" of its M xDrive all-wheel drive system. This setup pairs with an active M differential located at the rear axle. Meanwhile, both SUVs come with the M Sport exhaust system as standard.
New BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: Equipment
The new BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition feature adaptive M suspension tweaked electronically controlled dampers and active roll stabilisation. BMW has also reworked the steering system. Then, the M Compound brakes are coupled with a new-gen M-specific integrated braking system.
The top-of-the-range Competition versions come with 21- and 22-inch M light alloy wheels at the front and rear, respectively as standard. Whereas, a set of forged alloy wheels is available as optional extras. Meanwhile, BMW offers a new Jet Black solid finish wheels too.
New BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: Exterior and Interior
The new X5 M and X6 M Competition feature a variety of design changes on the outside. To put it simply, there is a new black-painted grille with horizontal slats, new aggressive front and rear bumpers, and M-spec outside rearview mirrors, among others. Additionally, the models get new matrix LED headlights with adaptive control and BMW Selective Beam. The X5 M Competition also features X-shaped fibre-optic light elements in the taillight.
Inside, there is pair of new carbon paddle shifters, fine-grain Merino leather upholstery, an M-spec leather steering wheel and seats, and so on. In addition, the cockpit sports a single-piece curved glass panel comprising a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch central information hub.
New BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: Advanced Technology
BMW has bestowed the X5 M and X6 M Competition with a wide range of additional driver assistance systems. Interestingly, one of the highlights of this system is an optional Parking Assistance Professional, which enables the driver to manoeuver the car up to 200 meters from the outside using the My BMW app on an Apple iPhone.
