New-gen Skoda Superb to make global debut in November; Indian debut in 2024
Skoda has confirmed that the next-generation Superb will be unveiled in November 2023. The timeline represents 90 years since the first version of this model was released worldwide. The upcoming Skoda Superb's fourth generation has improved technology, aesthetics, and is now even more spacious.
New Skoda Superb: Exterior
The car has gotten bigger in size. The model is 22 years old, and the current generation includes a 40mm increase in length for the estate and a 43mm increase for the hatchback. Despite losing 15mm in width, both are somewhat higher, providing for increased front-seat headroom.
Like before, the 2024 Skoda Superb will continue to be offered as an estate and sedan.
New Skoda Superb: Powertrains
The Superb's engine portfolio has been without a mild-hybrid option, but with this new model, an electrically assisted 1.5-litre TSI petrol with 150PS will be added to the roster. More petrol options include a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with either 204PS or 265PS and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol with a plug-in hybrid system for a total of 204PS (only available in the Estate body type).
This plug-in hybrid has a 25.7kWh battery, which is marginally bigger than the previous PHEV's 12.7kWh battery, which increases the electric-only range to over 100km. The hybrid will get a 6-speed DSG, while the remainder will have a 7-speed unit.
In India, the Superb was equipped with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and front-wheel drive, and the next-generation vehicle may receive the same.
New Skoda Superb: Interior
The inside will be highlighted by the presence of a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. To operate its features, a combination of physical and touch-based controls will be used. The gearshift is now positioned on the steering column due to changes in the interior architecture. Skoda claims that this provides additional room in the centre console for driver comfort.
Skoda has already confirmed with us that the car will be coming to our shores. A debut in India has yet to be determined, and we do not expect it until 2024.
