New India-bound Mercedes-Benz E-Class to debut on 25 April
German luxury auto major Mercedes-Benz has set the stage to reveal the new generation E-Class on 25 April, 2023. This generation update will bring a newly designed inside and out and updated tech.
The E-Class LWB is the most-sought after offering for Mercedes-Benz India. Not only it was the single highest-selling model in CY2022 but the E-Class LWB and C-Class together also constituted 30 per cent of the brand's overall sales in the first quarter of 2023. Currently, the E-Class family comprises a variety of models, such as the standard E-Class LWB, AMG E 53 4Matic, AMG E 63 S 4Matic+, and the recently launched AMG E 53 Cabriolet. Meanwhile, the fifth-gen facelift of the saloon was launched in the country in March 2021.
New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Design
The new E-Class will feature a fresh exterior design in line with its up-to-the-minute siblings. Along with the new face and rear end, the upcoming saloon will also feature a distinctive shoulder line running the length of the car - from the bonnet to the boot. This line now runs above the door handles instead of going through them like the on-sale model. Other changes will be in the form of new lights, wheels, and bumpers.
New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Interior
The most significant update for the all-new E-Class will be its new MBUX Superscreen, comprising a three-screen setup similar to the MBUX Hyperscreen.
The MBUX Superscreen system uses a "new very powerful central onboard computer" with a single processor for enhanced performance and faster data transmission speeds. It consists of three displays: a driver screen, a central information hub, and a co-passenger touchscreen. Interestingly, this new setup will offer a built-in camera to attend meetings and video calls when the vehicle is stationary or even take selfies and videos.
Further, the MBUX Superscreen enables users to use third-party apps as it supports Webex, Zoom, ZYNC, Vivaldi, and Tik Tok. Not to mention, users can even play the popular Angry Birds on the screen.
On top of the MBUX Superscreen, the cabin of the saloon features an Energising Comfort package, a Burmester 4D sound system with Dolby Atmos, and an active ambient lighting package as optional extras. Moreover, the new E-Class gets a Thermotronic temperature control system with digital vent control. This system is designed to automatically adjust the front air-con vents depending on desired ventilation scenario.
As a part of its Energising Comfort programme, Mercedes has introduced a new feature, called motion sickness prevention. This function promises to help affected passengers alleviate symptoms of motion sickness.
New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Powertrain
Since the German automaker is accelerating the EV push, it could make some form of electrification, such as a 48V mild hybrid, standard across the board for the new E-Class powertrains. In addition, the current PHEV models sold in some international markets are expected to be updated to provide a better EV-only driving range like the all-new GLC.
