New KTM 1390 Super Duke R breaks cover
After unveiling the new 990 Duke at the EICMA 2023, KTM has now pulled the wraps off the new 1390 Super Duke R, bringing in a fresh aggressive styling, more potent engine, and a host of electronic rider aids compared to its predecessor. The streetfighter will be available in two trim levels: 1390 Super Duke R and 1390 Super Duke R Evo. Interestingly, the next year will mark 40 years of Duke nameplate.
New KTM 1390 Super Duke R: Design
Following the most recent launches of the 2024 390 Duke and 2024 990 Duke, the all-new 1390 Super Duke R features similar muscular and sporty design language. There is a new headlight unit comprising two vertically stacked projector lamps and split daytime running lights. The new 17.5 litres fuel tank now gets spoilers and winglets. Not only they make the 1390 Super Duke R look meaner but also increase down force while riding at high speeds. Further, KTM says that it has reworked every panel for optimum thickness and minimised where possible.
New KTM 1390 Super Duke R: Powertrain
Powering the new 1390 Super Duke R is a completely redeveoped 1,350cc, V-twin, liquid-cooled DOHC engine generating 190PS at 10,000rpm and 145Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. It gets a larger throttle body, repositioned fuel injectors, new Cam Shift system, redesigned air inlet and airbox along with revised gear ratio of the fifth and sixth gears.
New KTM 1390 Super Duke R: Features and specifications
KTM has bestowed the 1390 Super Duke R with coming home light function, a new WP Apex open cartridge USD forks, a new fully adjustable WP Apex rear monoshock, Michelin Power GP tyres with dual compound technology, ride modes (inclduing two new Performance and Track modes), optional engine brake control, five-inch colour TFT display, USB Type-C port, TPMS, traction control system, wheelie control, dual-channel ABS, launch control, and among others.
The 1390 Super Duke Evo stands out with its new WP Semi-Active Technology suspension setup featuring electronically controlled magnetic valves for variable damping and electronic adjustability. In this case, the SCU (Suspension Control Unit) adapts the damping rates in real-time with the inputs from magnetic valves, analysing the road condition and rider's style to automatically adjust the suspension on the go. The updated suspension pro pack for the Evo model comes with anti-dive function, which keeps the front end stiff under hard braking.
