New KTM H88 & V80 instrument cluster displays revealed

KTM has revealed a significant upgrade to its electronic architecture with new touchscreen displays, called the V80 (eight-inch vertical) and H88 (8.8-inch horizontal). The new screens also bring in a redesigned switchgear system. The brand says that this development promises to enhance the Human-Machine Interface (HMI), delivering a more intuitive and immersive riding experience while minimising distractions for the rider.

New KTM touchscreen display

The new TFT dashboards feature a 1280x720 resolution with inductive touchscreen functionality. The screens are equipped with anti-reflex, anti-fingerprint, and anti-glare coatings, claiming to make them highly visible from any angle and in various lighting conditions. A remarkable increase to 256,000 colours (from 65,000) offers clarity and detail.

Additionally, the touchscreen supports inputs even when wearing gloves, allowing riders to control key features, such as heated grips, rider heated seat, and fog lights via virtual buttons, eliminating the need for physical auxiliary switches. The screen also offers five customisable layout options with split-screen functionality, allowing the rider to choose between features, namely adaptive cruise control, map navigation, telemetry, or music as their core home screen.

New KTM Switchgear and Connectivity Improvments

Apart from the new displays, KTM has also introduced an optimised switchgear with a dedicated Ride Mode button, a five-way joystick for easy navigation, and new buttons for cruise control, A/M (automatic/manual) modes, lighting, and ignition. The switches are now backlit, with icons positioned for easy identification in all conditions, improving rider usability.

In a major advancement, KTM's Offline Map Navigation is now integrated directly into the motorcycle's connectivity unit, providing real-time navigation without the need for a smartphone connection. This feature allows for route guidance, planning, and access to pre-programmed points of interest.

Furthemore, the newly developed CCU3.0 connectivity unit offers 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM, running on the Android Automotive operating system. With built-in eSim, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, the system provides reconnection with smartphones upon ignition, enabling riders to resume music, view album covers, and access their complete contact list. KTM's new approach allows for future Over-the-Air (OTA) updates.

We expect KTM to equip its high-end models, such as 1390 and 990 motorcycles, with the new displays. Other mid-range motorcycles may offer this feature as an optional extra.
