Global NCAP has announced the latest set of crash test results for vehicles made-in-India. Assessed under the new crash testing protocols, the new Mahindra Scorpio-N has secured a five-star rating for adult passenger protection, while it managed to score only three-star for child occupant protection. Meanwhile, Global NCAP also tested the Maruti Suzuki Swift, S-Presso, and Ignis, along with the Mahindra Scorpio-N.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Global NCAP Crash Test Results

The Scorpio-N secured 29.25 points out of 34.00 points and 28.93 points out of 49.00 points for adult and child occupants protection, respectively. The protection provided to the driver's and co-passenger's head, neck, and knee was rated good, whereas their chest showed marginal protection. According to Global NCAP, the Scorpio-N could not receive a higher child-passenger crash test rating due to the lack of three-point seat belts, thus scoring only three stars. Global NCAP rated its body shell and footwell areas as stable.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Standard Safety Features

For this test, the Scorpio-N was outfitted with two front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners and belt load limiters (at the front and second row), Seat Belt Reminder (SBR), Anti-locking Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and ISOFIX anchor points. Meanwhile, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is available as standard equipment in the base-spec variant.

Global NCAP Crash Test New Protocols

The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq were the first models to be tested under Global NCAP's more demanding crash test requirements under its #safercarsforIndia initiative. The Mahindra Scorpio-N was the latest model to be tested under the new crash test protocols. Notably, the updated crash test protocols assess frontal and side impact protection, pedestrian protection, electronic stability control, and side impact pole protection tests.
