New Maruti Suzuki Dzire scores 5-stars at GNCAP crash test
Even though the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire will only be launched on November 11, just a few days before, its safety rating is out and Maruti Suzuki can finally rejoice. The new Dzire is the brand's first car to score 5 stars in the GNCAP safety test. Keeping in mind that the previous generation of the car only scored 2 stars, this achievement is a big step for Maruti Suzuki in terms of safety.
Four stars were awarded to the Dzire 2024 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), compared to five stars for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). The vehicle received 39.20 out of 49 points for child safety and 31.24 out of 34 for adult safety.
Key safety features including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection are standard on the Dzire, which was just released to the Indian market.
The integrity of the front bodyshell was deemed to be steady during the test and is reportedly able to tolerate further loadings. The protection provided to the driver's and co-driver's head and neck during the frontal impact was rated as satisfactory.
The chests of the driver and the passenger displayed only moderate and sufficient protection, respectively. Both front passengers' knees were rated as having good protection. It was determined that the footwell region was stable.
In tests for side impact, the Dzire demonstrated good protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. The protection of the head, belly, and pelvis was good in the side pole impact test, however, the protection of the chest was only moderate.
In the dynamic test utilizing the child restraint systems, the Dzire received a score of 22 out of 24 for child occupant protection. The dynamic score for the 18-month-old's side and front protection was 4 out of 4 and 8 out of 8, respectively. Using a support leg and ISOFIX anchorages, the seat was positioned with its back to the rear. However, the 3-year-old child's front dynamic score was just 6.2 out of 8, which is not ideal. A flawless four out of four was the side's dynamic score.
David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, "The new Dzire's five star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result. We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers."
