New Maruti Suzuki Swift spotted testing in India
The Suzuki Swift 4th generation debuted recently at the Japan Mobility Show. Visually, it keeps the classic Swift design, but with a more premium interior and considerable engine improvements. Three test mules of the new Swift were recently sighted on the country's highways. The test mules were sighted accompanying the departing model, and while in camouflage, we still get a pretty decent look at what the upcoming car will be like.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Exterior and Interior
The design is clearly Swift, indicating that it is primarily a development of its predecessor. The headlights and taillights have been sharpened, the grille and bumper have been modified, and there is a strong shoulder line along the length of the car.
On the side profile, there will be a new shoulder line that runs the length of the car. It will also get new diamond-cut alloy wheels as well as more conventional rear door handles. New LED taillights with a C-shaped design have been introduced at the back.
Moving on to the inside, the new Swift hatchback is said to resemble the Baleno hatchback. It comes with a freestanding touchscreen entertainment system, a new dashboard, updated HVAC controls, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a largely digital instrument cluster, an automatic parking brake, three rear headrests, and a slew of other improvements.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Features
The International-spec Swift will feature various driver assistance systems, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive high beam assist, and driver monitoring system, among others. It would be surprising if Maruti Suzuki decides to offer them with the India-spec model. Further, the all-new Swift is likely to get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, advanced connected car tech with smartwatch connectivity, Type-C ports, 360-degree camera, a wireless charging pad, telematics, and more.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Powertrain
Maruti Suzuki is ditching its venerable K Series engine in favour of the Z Series 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The business has set strong fuel economy standards, and while power output is likely to stay similar to the K12 unit, torque will be greater, according to sources.
The new Swift when launched in India could also most likely borrow the 1.0-litre turbo engine from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The new hatchback is also most likely set to come with a five-speed manual and an AMT. Currently, the Maruti Swift retails from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
