New Mercedes-Benz GLC bookings commenced in India ahead of August 9 debut
Mercedes-Benz India has opened its order bookings for the new generation GLC and has announced that the SUV will make its India debut on August 9, 2023. Prospective customers can reserve their new GLC for a token amount of Rs 1.50 lakh. Notably, the Indiab-spec new-gen GLC will be available in a choice of two variants: the GLC 300 4Matic and GLC 220d 4Matic.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Engine, power outputs, and transmission
Mercedes will offer the SUV in petrol and diesel powertrain options. The GLC 300 will come powered by a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 258PS at 5,800rpm and 400Nm between 2,000rpm and 3,000rpm. There is also a the GLC 220d will get a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit that makes 197PS at 3,800rpm and 440Nm of torque between 1,800rpm and 2,800rpm. It is to be noted that both engines feature mild hybrid functionality, providing a boost of 23PS and 200Nm. Both motors are paired with a 9G Tronic automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive as standard.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Design and Dimensions
The completely overhauled exterior of the new generation GLC features a fresh and sporty look. The new and slimmer headlights, new eyebrow-style daytime driving lights, new triangular taillights, new front and rear bumpers, a wider and angular grille, new front door-mounted outside view mirrors, a new set of alloy wheels, and dual exhaust tips dominate its overall design language. Meanwhile, it measures 4,716mm in length, 2,075mm in width, and 1,640mm in height. The wheelbase of GLC is now slightly increased to 2,888mm. In fact, the brand has also widened its front and rear track width by 6mm and 23mm, respectively.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Interior
The newly designed interior features a new-gen MBUX setup with a 12.3-inch driver display and an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with biometric authentication. Additionally, Mercedes has given it a new steering wheel, new seats, and C-Class-inspired air-con vents. Similar to the other latest Mercedes-Benz cars, the MBUX trackpad in the GLC has been replaced with cubby holders and a wireless charging pad.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Features
The all-new GLC comes equipped with a new off-road mode with a 'transparent bonnet' function and enhanced ADAS. Plus, there is a 360deg camera, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a Burmester surround system, a heads-up display, 64 colours ambient lighting, and multi-zone temperature control. Also on offer is an engineering package with airmatic air suspension and rear-axle steering, and progressive digital headlamps as optional extras.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Prices and Rivals
While the previous generation GLC was offered in two trims: 200 Progressive at Rs 62 lakh and 220d 4Matic Progressive at Rs 68 lakh (both ex-showroom), the upcoming model is expected to command a higher premium. Thus, the prices of the new GLC are likely to range between Rs 65 lakh and 70 lakh. Upon launch, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC is likely to create a stiff competition for the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40 in India.
