Next-gen Toyota Prius unveiled with a range of powertrains

The first batch of photographs and information on the brand-new fifth-generation Prius has been made public by Toyota. A plug-in hybrid system, which will initially be the only powertrain choice for Europe, and two full hybrids, which will be offered in other areas including Japan and North America, make up the new Prius's three available powertrain options.

The appearance of the new Prius has undergone revolutionary modifications, but some of those changes also echo some features of the previous generation's models to give it a vintage feel. The use of more contemporary components and a cleaner profile on the most recent model, however, give it a more upscale and elegant appearance.

The Toyota Prius has undergone design changes. It has a more angular, contemporary appearance and incorporates certain design cues from the Toyota bZ3X electric car. According to the carmaker, the front of this automobile was inspired by a hammerhead shark and now has 19-inch alloy wheels. The 2023 Prius has a hatchback form and horizontally positioned LED tail lights at the rear.

In the European market, Toyota will only offer the Prius as a plug-in hybrid vehicle. A 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine with a 220PS output makes up the drivetrain. A 13.6kWa battery, which is housed behind the back seats, is included in the latest Prius made for Europe. According to Toyota, the new model's full-EV range is 50 percent more than that of its predecessor, perhaps reaching 90 km as opposed to 60 km previously.

Additionally, Toyota will make a solar roof panel option available for the Prius plug-in. In areas like Japan and North America, Toyota will offer the Prius with not just one but two powerful hybrid alternatives. These will have 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines coupled to a robust hybrid drivetrain. Both versions will include Toyota's E-Four AWD technology, with a maximum power output of 194PS.

The inside of the new Toyota Prius receives a comprehensive overhaul using high-quality materials. To keep the interior functional, Toyota hasn't shied away from keeping to the fundamentals. The company's automated temperature control system utilizes physical buttons, and the steering wheel is equipped with a plethora of buttons as well.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is located on the updated dashboard. A digital gauge cluster is also located on the driver's screen, just slightly above the top of the steering wheel.
